I'm voting this time; are you?

Government offices work in strange ways. I ran around the passport office for days on end, without meals(which incidentally I can never stay without, heh), waited in the blazing sun for hours, and met with officials a million times; they are still to process my passport. Imagine my consternation, when, without even my knowledge, I got my voter ID card! Yeah! I did nothing. No going to the xyz office to click my photo, no ID proof, nothing. Am not complaining., though. My first reaction when my aunt gave me my card could only be described as euphoria. I remember doing a lil jig dance as well, oblivious to the giggles of my cousins.

I relayed this news to my friends and asked them excitedly who they were going to vote for this year. I was quite surprised to note that many of them are not gonna vote. Yeah, they have voter ID cards, too! I tell you guys, its a real shame. We complain about the roads, we complain about the transport, we complain about almost everything. Isn't it our responsibility then, that we should at least try to elect a leader who might set it right? Long shot, I know. But then, its worth trying. All politicians are evil, I know; we can choose the lesser of those 4 or 5 evils, right?

There are a lot of potholes in the election system; I mean, today, almost 100% of all youngsters are out scattered across the country, the globe, even. But then there is this rule which states you can vote from only that constituency from where the voter ID card was issued. It's hard to journey all those miles for voting, but at least those of us who are actually present in the same constituency, what can possibly stop us from voting?

Dunno about you guys, but I'm damn proud that I'm voting for the first time ever. It's just one tiny vote, but it'll sure give me some peace of mind, knowing that I did my bit.

Hmm seriously, lucky you!

I got my voter's ID after like 5 months, and it was registered to an Ashwin and not Aswin and whose dad was Durairaj instead of Dorairaj. And if that wasn't enough, they changed my pincode to some godforsaken slum of the city which happpens to be fall in the same constituency I think! Inspite of this I managed to vote last time and I shall this time too! And I still am to explain to the dear government as to how I was born in 2 different places simultaneously, if you get what I mean! Maybe I should do a blog post on that!

Heh, there are plenty of mistakes in my card too, the wonderful thing about govt. offices is, like my Dad explained to me, even prime minister Manmohan Singh is sure to have some mistakes in his voter card.

Pitiful, how the system works. :D
